Will and Marty brought the Zombie Fish Bits game to the Game Start Fall Kick Off last Saturday.  The kids and parents played Zombie Fish Bits on a variety of Apple mobile devices and built cool stuff with Bits manipulatives.  Want your own Zombie Fish Bits shirt?  Click on our Kickstarter page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/primalmath/zombie-fish-bits-fun-mobile-math-game to find out how to get a shirt, android game, and other cool swag.

Welcome to Primal Math!

So why did we build a math app?

As a dad of a seven-year old daughter, some of my favorite memories were watching her tell imaginative stories at bedtime or solving puzzles on Saturday mornings. Once school started and math homework was assigned, I began to see anxiety and frustration replace curiosity and self-motivation.

After meeting Dr. Martin Fletcher and seeing how he effectively accelerated children’s math learning in a clinic setting, we teamed up to build the game that we couldn’t find.

Calling upon a motion picture background, and a talented award-winning team of professionals from entertainment, technology and the science of learning, our goal became to help children discover their innate ability to think mathematically and understand key fundamentals that they will use the rest of their lives.

People use math everyday. And most daily math has meaning. Most of the math in school is focused on thinking backward through memorization of sequential, procedural steps. Although important, by doing this solely, it interferes with abstract thinking. Thinking in the present and thinking forward through conceptual understanding, planning, problem solving, pattern recognition and simultaneous processing helps learners understand the logic, meaning and how it all relates.

In the coming days, we will begin by discussing ways to do this through a key fundamental concept of composing and decomposing quantities.

In the meantime, we encourage you to collaborate with us and share your experiences. And please download Zombie Fish Bits and give us a review in the App Store.

Thank you and welcome to the journey.
